August 15, 2017 -- ReNEW Schaumburg Elementary School, in partnership with NORDC and the American Red Cross, will pilot a swim program at Joe W. Brown Park during the 2017-18 school year. The goal is to raise awareness and begin pushing all students in New Orleans public schools to learn water safety and skills.
August 10, 2017 -- All ReNEW schools will be closed Thursday, August 10 and Friday, August 11.
Due to the issues with the city’s pumps and the potential for more severe weather, we made this decision in consultation with the Recovery School District out of an abundance of caution. Our students’ safety is a top priority.
May 9, 2017 -- Ciera Paul, a teacher at ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy, was one of eight New Orleans teachers selected to receive a 2017 'New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Award.' New Schools for New Orleans (NSNO) accepted 90 nominations from schools across the city for educators who go above and beyond with their work in the classroom.
March 9, 2017 -- Following a national search of candidates, the ReNEW Schools Board of Directors unanimously voted this evening to appoint Kevin Guitterrez as the organization’s next chief executive officer. Guitterrez, who currently serves as president of ReNEW Schools, will transition into the new role as CEO in June.
February 17, 2017 -- During NBA All-Star week in New Orleans, several former players visited ReNEW Schaumburg Elementary students during their first week at the temporary Gaudet site. Dikembe Mutombo, Gary Payton, Muggsy Bogues, Bob Lanier and others offered words of encouragement for the students, just one week after a tornado damaged their primary school building in New Orleans East.
January 10, 2017 -- At ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy, students put their multiplication tables to song, while eighth graders use the musical “Hamilton” to study debate. The public charter school’s curriculum is a product of a federal effort to use arts education to boost achievement in the nation’s lowest performing schools. Jeffrey Brown reports.
